Dental implants consist of surgical-grade titanium posts placed in your jawbone to support dental crown restorations after the loss of one or more natural teeth. At Supreme Dental, we conduct examinations to determine your eligibility for dental implants and perform the implant placement through a series of surgeries and healing periods.
Titanium, the metal used in dental implants, stands out as the optimal material due to its biocompatibility. This metal is also employed in artificial joints such as knee and hip replacements. The unique properties of titanium enable the human bone to integrate into the metal's surface, a phenomenon known as osseointegration. Thanks to osseointegration, your implants serve as incredibly stable roots for your dental crown, allowing you to use your restorations just like your natural teeth.
Similar to many modern medical and dental technologies, dental implants have evolved significantly in terms of design and technology, rendering them a reliable and effective option for tooth replacement. Supreme Dental in Las Vegas leverages these advancements, incorporating 3D Cone-beam scan technology and surgical planning software to achieve more precise implant placement. This approach reduces the risk of complications and enhances the overall success rate.
With proper care and maintenance, dental implants offer patients a durable solution to tooth loss, providing the opportunity to enjoy a natural-looking and fully functional smile.
During your initial consultation, a 3-D cone beam X-ray is taken to determine the position and quality of the bone in preparation for the dental implant. Along with the information from the scan, sophisticated surgical planning software is used to prepare for a safe surgery with optimal results.
The first of two surgeries involves making an incision in your gums over the area where the implant is intended to be placed and the removal of any remaining part of the original tooth or its root, as needed. If there is minimal to no bone loss in the area, the implant can be placed safely and securely before closing the incision to allow it to heal for two months.
Two months later, another incision is made to uncover the implant, and an attachment component called a healing abutment is connected to the implant. The gum tissue will then heal around the abutment, providing a foundation for the tooth restoration.
One week after connecting the healing abutment to the implant, it is removed, and an impression of the implant site is taken. It will take about two and a half weeks for the dental implant crown to be screwed onto the dental implant, completing the process.
Many people prefer dental implants over traditional dental bridges for several reasons. Traditional bridges rely on nearby healthy teeth for support, while dental implants support restorations on their own. Dental implants have several specific advantages over bridges, including:
However, it's important to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of both treatments during your initial consultation, as each case is different. In some cases, patients may not have enough bone density or volume to support dental implants. In such cases, a dental bridge may be a better option. Additionally, some patients may prefer a bridge if they are not comfortable with the idea of oral surgery required for dental implant placement. It's important to discuss your individual situation and preferences with your dentist to determine the best treatment plan for you. We will answer all of your questions about each of your options for treatment.
Dental implants can restore your speaking and chewing abilities to how they were before you lost one or more teeth. To find out if dental implants are the right option for you, call Supreme Dental or book an appointment online today.
Unlike conventional dentures, which can potentially slip out of place, snap-in dentures are more stable and versatile.
Dental implants or screws placed within your jawbone hold snap-in dentures in place. Typically, two to four implants are used in each jaw, although depending on the need and your budget, you may have as many as 10 inserted.
Once the implants are in your jaw, an implant-retained or implant-supported denture (also sometimes referred to as an overdenture) can be set in place.
Depending on how the overdenture and implants are created, the overdenture itself may be fixed permanently in place, or it might be removable for cleaning purposes.
